Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has admitted he is prepared to let goalkeeper Shay Given leave the club in January, though Newcastle United are reportedly preparing to swoop for their former goalkeeper in an emergency loan deal.
Given revealed on Sunday that he is finding life on the bench "very, very frustrating" and said he is keen to secure a loan move in January.
And following City's 2-0 win at Wigan, where Given was again an unused substitute, Mancini said that his goalkeeper would be allowed to find a new club.
Mancini said: ''I have a lot of respect for Shay and I told him the situation before the finish of the [transfer] market, 'Shay, you can choose. I hope that you stay here but I respect your decision and if you want to leave you can.'
''He decided to stay here and until January he must stay here. I understand his frustration but I need that Shay stays here and puts in 100%. In January if he decides to leave I respect his decision.''
