Agent: Man Utd have Douglas Costa on shortlist of Ronaldo replacements

The agent of Gremio starlet Douglas Costa has sensationally revealed talks with Manchester United.

"They [Manchester United] have identified four or five possible replacements for Cristiano Ronaldo in the world, and Douglas is one of them,” Cesar Bottega told Radio Gaucha.

“We have been contacted by several clubs some time ago, including Manchester [United], but by South American ones as well.”

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson had Jaap Stam check on Douglas Costa in November, while brother Martin Ferguson has also scouted the teenage attacker.

omg..if Man Utd really buy him..signed him everything..i guarantee that he will win the World Player award..he will be bigger than Ronaldo..The way he play is a combination of C. Ronaldo and Romario..and the size of Bebeto...with Anderson some more..joga bonito already...

actually, it's seen and proven that central midfielders with such playing style don't work in epl. go think about the last flashy central mid to play for united. veron. whereas compare to the more successful central midfielders, such as carrick, gerrard and lampard. they are much more practical, less flashy. i.e. i don't like the idea of this guy.

Costa's agent fears Gremio's £18m price tag will put Fergie off Brazilian wonderkid

The agent of Brazilian wonderkid Douglas Costa fears his club Gremio could price him out of a move to Manchester United.

The Premier League champions are keen on the 18-year-old, dubbed the new Ronaldinho, but Gremio want around £18m.

Costa's representative, Cesar Bottega, claims informal talks have been held but added: ‘I don't believe that they (Manchester United) will reach this figure.

'Right now, an offer might come in at a maximum of £6.7m. But this would not be enough for [Gremio] president Duda Kroeff.’

well, true, but MU needs to play UCL and etc so they need options.

In EPL, it is more down to earth, but in european games, u need that extra edge.

well, a UCL player isn't quite worth the 21mil buyout clause. don't get me wrong, i've watched this guy and i love the way he plays. unfortunately it just doesnt fit in. =( lol.

If you consider in to be world class or one of the best players in the world 5-6 years from now, 18m is cheap. buy, nurture and then train him, in a few years time, he will be as good as Ronaldo.

well, if U ask me, MU seems to buy, nuture, and then sell for a big profit...

to be frank, all SouthAmerican (SA) players have a tendency to do a "veron" given the physical nature of EPL. so whether he fits in or not will depends on how SAF "bloods" him. The fact he is young means he can adapt. but I just don't like the tag of "next" ronaldinos, just too farce and used too many times..

ya. but Man Utd dun want to sell ronaldo if not for his insistence to join RM. if ronaldo is happy to play for Man Utd for the rest of his career, dun think fergie or Man Utd will considering selling him

not true!!! some of the most physical players ARE south american. mascherano @ liverpool and gilberto silva formerly at arsenal. lol.

its the flair style, which is kinda inbuilt, honestly. and kinda in that position only. where ronaldo etc have no problems out wide, inside the flashy players are punished quite hard. who knows, he might just take th no.7 jersey. but well, agreed. still very dependent of ferguson.
