Chelsea are attempting to beat Manchester United to the signing of Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David De Gea according to the Spanish club’s general manager Miguel Angel Gil Marin.
The news comes after reports suggest a £22million deal has already been struck that sees the 20-year-old replace Edwin van der Sar at Old Trafford.
But Marin dismissed these reports and claimed Chelsea have also made an offer but the ultimate decision will rest with De Gea.
But Marin did reveal to that they had indeed received bids from not only United but also Chelsea.
“We’ve received offers from United and Chelsea [for De Gea],” Marin told Spanish radio Cadena SER.
“He also has an offer from us to renew his contract. We’d like him to stay, but David’s future is entirely in his own hands.
“The deciding vote looks as if it will be De Gea’s. Is he keen on moving to England, or will he prefer to stay in Madrid?
“At the end of the season we will see if he wants to go or not. If he wants to leave, we’ll refer to his €25m (£22.3m) buy-out clause.”
