What a sight for sore eyes and for lifting of spirits, as rainbow sightings were made in the early evening of 1 January 2007, seemingly to usher in the new year with blessings and auguries of great things to come.
Many STOMP contributors from all over the island hastened out of their homes to catch this pretty sight, like Leonard Lee, who calls this a “: A fitting start to a new year as the clouds cleared and gave way to a brilliant rainbow over the west of Singapore.” He took the picture above to share it with the rest of STOMP readers.
Fresh graduate Tan Yin Yin, 19, who told STOMP she “excitedly told neighbours to come out to take pictures of two rainbows” she saw at Bukit Batok East Avenue 3 did so as well after she saw two, one clear and the other, fainter, in the sky.
Her neighbours who lived along her street gamely joined in the fun, whipping out their cameras to capture the gorgeous sight.
Elsewhere, an elated Peter Lim, 39, was “elated and filled with a sense of hope” when he spotted the rainbow over his Summerdale home. In his email to STOMP, the accountant said:
“The rainbow was first mentioned in the Bible during the days of Noah. After the great flood destroyed the earth, God sent a rainbow as a promise that the earth will never be destroyed by a flood again.”
He continues:
“What a re-assuring sign on this very first day of the new year: that no matter what may happen, EVERYTHING WILL BE ALL RIGHT!”
Chief engineer Jason Chan, who was over at Teck Whye Lane, told STOMP “it must be a good and lucky year ahead. It is a rare scene on New Year's day.”
Janice, 31, felt she was one "lucky" soul, being able to catch this "unique" sight.
She was going for dinner, and considers herself fortunate as she was able to see this double rainbow on New Year's Day, and considers this a sign of good things to come.
