Ajax star Eriksen pining for £20m Man United switch as Zenit lodge bid
Great Dane: Eriksen impressed when Ajax met Man United last season
Danish international midfielder Christian Eriksen will ask his club Ajax if Manchester United are one of two clubs bidding for his services before he makes a decision on his future.
Zenit St Petersburg have begun talks with the Dutch champions over the £20million-rated 20-year-old, according to the Sunday Mirror.
But Eriksen is hopeful that United will rival the Russian champions for his signature, given Sir Alex Ferguson's outspoken admiration of him in the past.
Ferguson was impressed by the playmaker's performances against United in last season's Europa League and could be tempted to make an offer to bolster his midfield options.
Eriksen has previously identified United and Barcelona as two clubs he would be interested in joining, and he will ask Ajax's new director of football Marc Overmars if a move to United is a possibility.
Despite winning their second consecutive title in May, Ajax need to sell some of their prize assets to balance their books.
Captain Jan Vertonghen left for Tottenham in a £10m deal last week, while defensive midfielder Vurnon Anita could also be on his way to the Premier League, with Newcastle having registered an interest.
Ajax have already secured a replacement for Eriksen, with Adam Maher having arrived from AZ Alkmaar.
