Player of the Month - March
1 - Jonny Evans (47%)
2 - Wayne Rooney (44%)
3 - Ashley Young (6%)
4 - Rio Ferdinand (3%)
Jonny Evans has been named Manchester United’s Player of the Month following polls on the club’s seven official websites.
It is the first time that Evans has won the award in his Reds career following a string of outstanding performances throughout March as the champions only conceded one goal in four Barclays Premier League matches.
Sir Alex recently wrote in his United Review column: "When I think back to the time when so many critics were ready for me to move Evans on, I hope they're questioning their judgement because the boy has been in sure form lately."
Evans thoroughly deserved the accolade after breaking his goalscoring duck for the first team, shining at the heart of the defence and setting up Wayne Rooney's winner against Fulham with some quick thinking. The Northern Ireland international pipped Rooney in the poll while other nominees Ashley Young and Rio Ferdinand were further back in the voting.
On ManUtd.com's message board, Talking Reds, RG11CAB commented: "I was at the West Brom match and I have to say it looked like Jonny said to Rio, "Don't worry, I'll take care of everything". Jonny was superb and it seemed that Rio didn't have to make a tackle! He's superb at the moment and is silencing all his critics. Keep it up Jonny."
Evans becomes the seventh player to scoop the prize this season after David De Gea (twice), Wayne Rooney, Nani, Javier Hernandez, Dimitar Berbatov and Antonio Valencia.
