Fergie has not beaten Chelsea away in the Premier League since 2004 and taken just three points from the last 27 at the Bridge.
The United boss said: "We've done very well away from home so far this season and we need to be good from now on.
"We've got some really important away games in the run-in — Chelsea, Tottenham and City.
"Games at Chelsea in the last few years have been tough and we've had terrible luck there.
"The players know what they need to do."
United drew level on points with leaders Manchester City on Tuesday as they beat Stoke, while Roberto Mancini's men crashed 1-0 at Everton.
They have closed the gap despite a desperate run of injuries. And they are now boosted by players returning.
Wayne Rooney will be fit for Sunday after missing two games with an ankle knock and Ashley Young could be on the bench following six weeks out.
Fergie also hopes whizkid Tom Cleverley, 22, is ready for only his second appearance since his ankle injury against Bolton back in September.
Ferguson said: "He was phenomenal at the start of the season and it will be like having a new signing to get the boy back.
"I think he is special and he can make a big impact on the title race."
Fergie definitely needs this now....
Full time
Chelsea 2-2 Man Utd
It's time for United to get a win at the Bridge... In the past, the referee always plays a part in United losing, whether it's an offside decision not called or a free-kick that wasn't... Let's hope the referee won't be the problem again this time.
Chelsea will be missing Terry, Ramires and without suspended Ashley Cole and Drogba (international duty).
Referee is Pool fan Howard Webb...

5 midfielders with rooney in AM position.
High tempo without the ball.
we will be fine.
I am happy if United can just scrape thru with a 1-0 or 2-0 scoreline seeing how decimated our squad is.

BUT WHAT A NICE 2 SAVE from de gea
United just love to make it hard for themselves...but 3-0 was pushing it right!?
chelsea really jialat.
cant even defend a 3 goal lead for 40 mins. at home!!!
It isn't a very bad result considering from 3-0 down in the 2nd half... However, i felt the referee again played a part in all this. Cahill could have easily been sent off right at the start, first 12 mins i think but the referee made a very poor call or should i say the ass referee by the side... Had he been sent off, United would most probably win this match.
Anyway, can't be too disappointed as on the 60th min, i thought this match was over and beyond united anymore...
And the free-kick saved from De Gea was simply amazing... Lindegaard probably wouldn't even reach that let alone saved it like what happen at Newcastle. De Gea for all his inexperienced in the aerial part of his game, his shot stopping is very good. Had that one gone in, it would have been a real injustice as to begin with, David Luiz dived right infront of Scholes in injury time... Can't even make out how that was a free-kick...
Adding some body weight and gaining more experienced in the epl will see De gea become a top keeper.
united self destruct with 2 own goals and then chelsea self destruct with 2 pk and a free header. city must be happy at this result, even happier if chelsea can beat united.
united played well but conceded 3 stupid goals and chelsea played average but 3 goals ahead. what a funny game this match was. I almost wanted to turn off the tv and went to sleep when chelsea scored the 3rd goal. Evra had a hand in all Chelsea's goal. I am not impressed with his performance for the past 2 seasons already. his form went from bad to worse. When Evans conceded an own goal, I am wondering must be him again. now whenever evans and evra play, I am afraid they may do something rash during the match.
What do ya expect? Kelong game. Webb went straight to manU to ask for payraise after celebrate wif players!
Evra been making lots of silly errors this season. in fact his form for the past 2-3 seasons were no good. maybe time for fergie to look for a young and up coming left back or winger.
We can't blame Evra totally cos his game is going forward lots of times and he adds a different dimension to United's game. And that is in attack.
If without Evra, who i find is hard-working and willing to make the runs, United's left-side is less potent... Last time O'Shea, Fablo or Giggs... not the same. Sometimes, must weigh the impotance and give and take a little...
Opps... Chelea fan spoted... lol.
That Webb guy should have sent off Cahill on the 12 mins for last man offence... It's so simple, can't belief he didn't see it... United would had an easier time.
