January could be crunch time for Dimitar Berbatov and Manchester United
VALENCIA and Paris Saint-Germain will test Manchester United’s resolve over record £30million signing Dimitar Berbatov’s future.
Doubts persist over the Bulgarian, who has slipped down the Old Trafford pecking order despite finishing last season alongside Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez as the Premier League’s top goalscorer.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson rejected overtures from Qatar-backed PSG in the summer believing the 30-year-old still had a role to play at the club.
But the impressive form of Danny Welbeck, after a season-long loan at Sunderland, has contributed to Berbatov spending most of the current campaign in the shadows.
Already behind Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernández in Ferguson’s attacking hierarchy, the former Spurs star is out of contract in the summer and United could cash in during the January transfer window.
PSG remain keen and would be willing to pay £10m.
Valencia have a reputation for cashing in on their stars, including David Villa, David Silva and Juan Mata, and want to strengthen in the next transfer window. Berbatov is their main target.
It means January could be crunch time for Berbatov and United.
