Team news for Tuesday night's Champions League Group C clash between Manchester United and Basle at Old Trafford.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson could be without eight senior players for the game.
Wayne Rooney is expected to miss out with the hamstring injury that sidelined him for Saturday's draw with Stoke and he was among a long list of players who did not train at United's Carrington HQ on Monday morning.
Also absent was Rooney's strike partner Javier Hernandez, who limped off early in the Stoke game with a dead leg.
If Hernandez does not recover in time to face the Swiss outfit, Ferguson will be choosing between Michael Owen, Dimitar Berbatov and fit-again Danny Welbeck in his attack.
But the problems do not stop there for United. Central defenders Jonny Evans (ankle), Chris Smalling (groin) and Nemanja Vidic (calf) also did not train.
That is almost certain to mean Rio Ferdinand lining up alongside youngster Phil Jones, with Antonio Valencia again pressed into service as an emergency right-back as Rafael (shoulder) is out with a long-term problem.
Fellow long-term casualties Tom Cleverley (foot) and Darron Gibson (ankle) have long since been ruled out.
United drew their opening match with Benfica in Lisbon a fortnight ago, while Basle are group leaders after defeating Romanian side Otelul Galati in their first game.
First half was excellent, movement, switching play worked very well, a few errors here and there with possession but generally good. And I thought they learnt their lesson. Basel had amazing quality with their chance creation, and they managed to finish it to bring it 2-2.
And then it went downhill from there, defending went to shit, losing posession most of the 2nd half, gave away a penalty. Worst performance of the season to be honest, and 3rd in a row of shady performances.
*sarcasm* At least we're still undefeated. Heh.
tis is worst
is it coming back again?
like that time fail to qualify
Complacency has set in after those 5 straight wins in the EPL. Phil Jones is starting to show his defensive naivete. Tackling is solid no doubt but looks out of position at times.
This isn't the best of results as now they will have to go all out to win in their next match and that is just 3 days after they play Liverpool at Antsfield... and 4 days before the meeting with City...
Anyway, considering the way it went, the result isn't the worst we have to say... It could have been a defeat... lol.
i think backend, they are rushing rooney back.. sigh, really a one-man team??
I think the early form of MUFC masks the fact that MF, they may really need WS or a MF general.
Jones still has to learn playing in the central-defence... The guy is a great player and it's hard to fault him as we can honestly see him doing his best. But he needs more experience playing in the centre. A good thing Smalling is coming back soon (probably next match), cos he seems more reassuring. Jones can play on the right-back position as he can help going forward.
United still badly missing Rooney and Hernandez upfront... But at least Welbeck is back and he gives far more than Berbatov's lazy movement...

I think any team in the premier league have 8, 9 men injured will have a problem...
Actually United isn't doing too badly...

as per SAF, a wake up call to everyone... sometimes, this type of game can be catalyst for the team to move to next level.. let's hope this is one of those.
The way Basel played yesterday to be honest, away from home somemore, showed why they were Swiss champions.
Yet United, English champions, were shaky and nervous, at home. Injuries aside, it's not like the guys that played yesterday are new to this. We must improve or we will suffer next week.

I look the united lineup, this squad of players are good enough to win this game at OT. but didnt. looks like united is starting to run into bad run of game for 2 games in a row. united is still reliant on Rooney. hope he is able to play this saturday against Norwich.
I won't be too worried if Rooney won't play this weekend cos I think the United players will be very eager to put things right that Norwich will be the unfortunate victim of an onslaught... Rooney need a rest, and be ready for Liverpool...
