Champions League Game 01
Manchester United :
De Gea, Smalling, Evans, Jones, Fabio, Evra, Nani, Fletcher, Park, Carrick, Berbatov, Young, Anderson, Giggs, Valencia, Gibson, Rooney, Hernandez, Owen, Lindegaard.
Vidic, Rafael, Cleverley, Welbeck - Out
Ferdinand, Macheda, Diouf - NA
Evans... So many opportunities, I don't think we will see him next season if he keeps up like this.
Carrick keep giving the ball away, Fletcher just came back, getting game under belt, also leak here and there. 4-5-1 in the beginning, Rooney really cannot get into groove, went 4-4-2 too little too late, Rooney no confidence, keep giving the ball away. Lucky for us, Giggs equalized and Lindegaard with all the fantastic saves.
I was hoping at least to have Ando start with Fletch and have Chic on instead of Park, with Giggs and Valencia on the wing. But I guess a draw away at Benfica is good enough, since we have Chelsea this Sunday.
Short shrift: Fergie took umbrage to a question about keeper selection
Sir Alex Ferguson reacted angrily to questions on TV about why he replaced goalkeeper David de Gea with Anders Lindegaard for Manchester United's Champions League game in Benfica.
Lindegaard played a starring role in the 1-1 draw after being drafted in to replace his Spanish team-mate.
Asked about the decision by ITV interviewer Kelly Cates - daughter of Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish - Ferguson snapped: 'David de Gea will play on Sunday against Chelsea.
'That was the understanding we had before the game, and it doesn't change. I don't know why you ask these questions, you're just looking for stupid little things.
'Anyway, it proves we have two terrific goalkeepers.'
Lindegaard was delighted to have been given his chance and declared he is ready to fight for the No 1 spot.
Take a bow: Lindegaard was in inspired form, despite conceding
Asked about challenging De Gea, 20, the Denmark goalkeeper said: 'What answer do you expect to that question? I've said a thousand times before I'm not here to pick my nose.
'I enjoyed it very much, it was a great night. It's a great stadium to play at, a very loud audience. This is why I came to United, to play these kind of games.
'There's always a bit of nerves and if there isn't then it's not that enjoyable. It makes me feel alive. I'm satisfied with my performance, just a bit sad that I didn't save the first goal.'
Liverpool connection: Kenny's daughter Kelly was posing the questions to Sir Alex
Flat out: De Gea is set to return to the team
United fell behind to a first-half goal from Benfica centre forward Oscar Cardozo but Ryan Giggs equalised just before half-time.
Speaking about the goalkeepers in his written press conference, Ferguson said: 'I was very impressed with Anders, but we've got two great goalkeepers in Anders and David.
'David will play against Chelsea and possibly Anders will play against Leeds United on Tuesday.'
LOL...it was a valid qn but Fergie is doing that so it doesn't cause a rift in team harmony.
SAF has said before that the number 1 goalkeeper has not been decided in pre-season.
So i guess its fair for him to play both gk in diff games.
No complain as lindegaard was impressive last night.
2 good GK in the squad.
Lol... Lindegaard... "I've said a thousand times before I'm not here to pick my nose"
I think De Gea will be our BPL keeper and Lindegaard our CL/FA/Carling keeper lol
Shock to see Man U has only 4 shots for the full match
