Ross Barkley is a player in the mould of Bryan Robson
MANCHESTER UNITED boss Sir Alex Ferguson is on the trail of Everton’s latest wonderkid Ross Barkley.
Seven years ago United invested in another Everton 17-year-old who had announced his arrival in the Premier League, Wayne Rooney.
Although Barkley, a box to box midfielder in the style of former Old Trafford great Bryan Robson, has yet to establish himself as a Goodison Park regular, United have already seen enough to
make their interest known.
It’s understood that there was dialogue between Everton and United in the summer with the Premier League champions prepared to do business. Everton stood firm – but although no price was mentioned, they wouldn’t accept anything less than £15m – and that could yet increase.
United will be back in during the January transfer window, anxious not to miss out on one of the most exciting talents to emerge since Rooney exploded on to the scene.
Barkley was also praised by former United player Phil Neville, who said: “There’s nothing flash or fancy about him. He’s so humble.”
