Squad sheets: West Bromwich Albion v Manchester United
Manchester United's title defence begins at The Hawthorns, one of only five away grounds where they won in the Premier League last season. Lady luck was smiling on them on that occasion. Gary Neville should have been sent off and Peter Odemwingie missed a penalty for Albion.
Despite United's impressive comeback against Manchester City last Sunday, which was inspired by younger legs, Sir Alex Ferguson is likely to put his faith in an experienced line-up here. Albion may give a debut to new signing Shane Long, with Odemwingie struggling to be fit. Stuart James

• Ashley Young won more penalties (five) than any other player last term
• Albion have never won their first match of a Premier League season, drawing two and losing three of their five games so far
• Michael Owen needs to score once more to reach 150 Premier League career goals
• Albion set a new record for the fewest clean sheets in a Premier League campaign (two) last season
• David de Gea conceded more goals from shots outside the area (11) than any other keeper in the Spanish league in 2010-11
liverpool, arsenal and chelsea all drew on opening day. I hope Man United dun make it a quintet of draws.
what a comedy of errors. first with fabio caught in possession ih the middle of the field and then De Gea beaten at near post, when it looks saveable.
hm..ok..got 1 bery good save from him..
I blame Fabio for caught in possession first, otherwise De Gea will not be beaten or compromised in that situation. United should be 2 or 3 in front if not for Nani 2 miss chances.
both CB are injured and replaced by Evans and Jones and Smalling playing the RB, the future united backline.
heng eh, united did not buck the trend by drawing in their opening games, albeit the 2-1 scoreline. united still need a creator in midfield based on anderson and cleverley display in midfield today.
ho seh.3points in bag. but..like got some injury in bag too.. hm.
Away matches are not easy... So even if they got a Sneijder in there, it may still not make a difference... Anyway, if base on today, I don't think Carrick would have done any better either... Cleverley did ok...
Welbeck wasn't good today... But that's what you get from youngsters... They are not consistent...
And on De Gea... What can you say, 2 matches, both disappointing... I always felt he was a risky choice... He is a good shot stopper but he don't seem to have a presence in the box... Moreover his small frame will be a problem in the Premiership...
Now, all United fans can hope for is he improve fast... Cos their next few matches are going to be very difficult opponents...

United should have went out and got the Stoke keeper... That guy is like the new Petr Cech... And he would have cost a lot lesser too...
Sad, now we are stuck with de gea... Small size, no presence, can't handle the high balls into his area... Last few seasons i didn't even felt anything but now, any ball going in to the box i get worried...
De Gea better improve especially now no Vidic and Rio...
Alex Ferguson's men looked like having to settle for a point after the Spanish goalkeeper's howler allowed Shane Long to cancel out Wayne Rooney's first half opener.
But despite a barrage of abuse from the Hawthorns faithful, De Gea ended the game all smiles thanks to Reid turning the ball into his own net with 10 minutes remaining after Young's superb solo run.
The victory came at a cost however, with Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic both limping off injured.
Big matches I think Lindegaard will take the spot now. De Gea is young, lots to learn, shown his talent, defenders need to support him, especially when he stops a shot, even with the language barrier, a fist or pat on the back will go a long way for his confidence.
What was disappointing ultimately for me was how easily the ball was given away via Anderson and a few other players. Cleverly needs to look behind him once in awhile, always get caught by someone closing him down from behind.

Must give him time, I don't recall Schmeichel or VDS having an easy start when they came in.
I think he commanded the back four better when the Evans and Jones came in, think he's showing a bit too much respect to the veterans, even Lindegaard yells at Rio and Vidic.

hmm, I disagree.
1) away games are tough, but to negate Sneijder's quality in that, or even carrick, i think U are making a broad statement and too soon.
2) Welbeck wasn't good today... But that's what you get from youngsters... They are not consistent....
these youngsters are not fresh from oven, they have been loaned out and playing in EPL premier leagues. I think the start of the season, and once they gel with the rest of teams, I think they will become vital.
3)agree with Keii, just two games, and people already calling him taibi 2.0 or even a Howard.

I actually made a comment with my friends that when one of them raged at De Gea's incident, I told him if Foster was still with us we would have lost 5-2 lol
ya lindegaard need to play the next 5 games.. spurs will probably play crouch and arshavin will shoot on sight.. chelsea bolton and stoke will be hell for de gea.
i like lindegaard.. he got the right attitude and belief.. and looks good on yoututbe! i hope saf give him a a chance.

to do that would shoot David's confidence to bits.
I think he is young, getting used to EPL's game, and it may placed a lot of stress on the defence, but I feel, that with the pressure on the young players, they will gel and forged into a stronger backline. the kind of "let's work together and cover each other", with jones, smalling and David and the rest of the younger folks.

feel that he is not ready to face our upcoming opponents.. so it may be wiser to withdraw him now. if he makes another howler to complete a hat trick.. his confidence will probably nosedive anyway. even with rio and vidic yesterday.. the defence looks shaky after that goal. against tougher opponents the youngsters will be better off with a solid presence behind them..
better to slowly ease him into the team with league cup/fa cup ties/crappy epl teams, build up his body and work on his weaknesses before throwing him into the wild.
our youngsters are mentally stronger than arsenal's kids thats for sure.. but 15 pts is too much of a gamble.
if he continue to make howlers like this and costs united the title or the CL, then he will be shipped off to La Liga and maybe united will bid for Buffon next season.
De Gea should also adopt the right mentality in regards to being replaced for certain games because Lindegaard is obviously more stable and already used to screaming at everyone.
First things first, he needs to get language nailed down right, and bloody make friends with the defenders, 2 games already, Rio and Vidic like never talk to him like that, no communication is one thing but like I mentioned before, the veterans should show their support when he makes good saves, not expect him to save every single damn thing for the next 38 games.
the other players should learn spanish so that they can communicate in spanish lol.
i dun think spanish words like come get it, clear, backoff, come up, long punt is difficult.

well, another angle of looking at tis, it forces the attack to score than the defense is leaking.. a dangerous proposition.
the thing is who's to gurantee the backup is no better than DG? given how the team/saf is rounding to support him, I feel that it is not a bad time for DG to really brave it thru.
Gunners is not a real threat with so many change, Chelsea a new manager, City, maybe. So why not bite the bullet?
I still feel he should face the baptism of fire.
even great dane has his hiccups.. if U track how he started for MUFC, in the first 10games or so.
