Izaguirre edges closer to United switch with £6.5m deal expected next month
United front: Izaguirre looks set to be heading south to Old Trafford
Manchester United are expected to hold talks with Celtic next month over the prospective £6.5million sale of Celtic left-back Emilio Izaguirre.
The Honduras international, 26, has been the subject of interest from Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle.
However, he said: 'I have to confirm it's 100 percent true that Manchester United were following me and were interested in me. It was Alex Ferguson directly who made contact with the Celtic directors.
'I am aware also that Manchester United and Celtic agreed for a meeting in July. We have to see what happens if I stay or I go.'
Back up for the twins and Evra?
I think Fergie don't really trust Fabio in the left-back position... If O'Shea is really sold away, they seriously need another guy as back-up and for the future as well when Evra start to lose it...
I don't think Fabio is the answer on the left in the near future... Evra is already 30 this season, though he is still ok, but some already think he is losing it... So he won't have much longer to go for an overlapping full back. Fergie was earlier linked to Newcastle's Jose Enrique... So it won't be any surprise should they suddenly get another left-back in this season...
I think this Izzaguire guy got more of a frame for a fullback role than a wingback, but nowadays the modern game every left/rightback also perform as second winger. Just have to see, to be honest any one who can pass is already better than O'Shea.

So slow toe poke what, always poke people instead. :/
If this guy can come in and provide an extra defensive dimension to the team I happy already. Sometimes I fear when both sidebacks are so attacking minded, they forget they have defensive duties. Evra seems to be getting sidetracked getting forward, last few games he play so much mistakes. If this guy can sit back and help United park bus when needed I don't mind, he seems to have the strength and speed.
Wah, this guy is the Triple Player of the year woh for last season in Scotland... Didn't know that until I just read it somewhere... I thought he was some unknown small fish in the pond... Not bad leh for £6.5m. He just turn 25 and he cost lesser than Bebe... lol.
Izaguirre won both the SPFA Players' Player of the Year and Scottish Premier League Player of the Year awards for 2010–11.
The judging panel for the latter award described Izaguirre as a "class act", while Celtic assistant manager Johan Mjallby commented that Izaguirre could become one of the best players in his position in world football.
Finally, he was voted Scottish Football Writers player of the year, rounding off a highly successful first season in Scottish football for Izaguirre.
