  DIMITAR BERBATOV celebrates his 30th birthday tomorrow - by setting a target to finish the season with a goal for every year.

  Manchester United's record signing has already banged in 20 since August.

  Five of those came in the space of four days as he followed Saturday's hat-trick against Birmingham by netting twice in the midweek 3-2 win over Blackpool.

  And boss Alex Ferguson sees no reason why the £30.7million hitman cannot continue his current hot streak.

  Fergie said: "Dimitar is playing with great confidence at the moment.

  "When strikers are in that kind of form you hope it lasts a long time. He could easily get to the 30 mark."

  Berbatov's future has been the subject of speculation with 18 months on his current deal left. But Fergie dropped a strong hint the striker will get sorted out - and suggested he could play on at the top for a while yet.

  Berbatov has never had tons of pace so Ferguson is not concerned about him slowing down in the twilight of his career.

  Fergie said: "He's under contract at the moment. Is he going to stay? Yes, it's not an issue.

  "You don't necessarily need to be quick to be a top striker.

  "Teddy Sheringham had no pace, Ruud van Nistelrooy wasn't quick but he was a really good goalscorer. It's what happens in the penalty box."

  Hope he can continue in this form of vein for the next 2 years at least.his resale value drop when he reaches 30. if fergie wants to sell him, the most he can recoup is 10-15m.

  To be honest, I expect him to stay till he retires or leaves after the end of the next contract. The same happens to forwards like Yorke, Cole, Sheringham or like Solskjaer who stays till he retires and "minted" with the tag of United Legend.
