Sir Alex Ferguson plans to hijack Arsenal's bid for Southampton youth prodigy Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
According to reports, the Manchester United boss has decided that the 17-year-old is worth angering Arsene Wenger for, and has decided to disrupt the Gunner's £10million bid for the player.
Quotes in the Sun from an United insider said: "The boss (Ferguson ) has made his move and now it's down to the lad and his family to decide - but United are a massive club to turn down."
The Southampton midfielder is coveted by several other clubs in the Barclays Premier League as well, with Liverpool also interested.
His father, Mark Chamberlain, was an England national player in the 1980's, and compared his son favorably against Theo Walcott, saying: "Alex is technically better than Walcott and can play in a more central role.
"He is not the most robust but he has been working on strengthening since he was 10."
However, it is acknowledged that the youngster's advisers are more in favour of him moving to Arsenal, given the club's reputation for the quality of their football as well as Wenger's ability to groom players into stars.

From giggs, beckham to ronaldo and nani…..so many of them.
United has and will always have way more success with youngsters and grooming compared to Arsenal, that is of course if United think the youngster has potential.
According to reports Southampton are ready for talks with Manchester
United this weekend to discuss a possible move for whizzkid Alex
Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The Daily Express claims the Saints will
meet United boss Sir Alex Ferguson when the two clubs meet in this
Saturday’s FA Cup fourth round at St Mary’s.
Arsenal appeared to
be the clear favourites to land the sought-after youngster but it seems
the Gunners have yet to make a firm offer.
This has opened the way for United to step in for the 17-year-old.
