The midfielder has impressed in recent weeks, scoring a rare goal in the Champions League draw with Valencia in midweek, and looks to be returning to the form he showed in his debut season at the club after signing from Porto in 2007.
The Brazilian’s contract is set to expire in 2012 but the report claims the 22-year-old is now in talks with the club over a new deal with both parties eager to get a deal done.
The 22-year-old has been an inconsistent figure since joining the Red Devils. He enjoyed a strong first season but his Old Trafford career has since been interrupted by injury and illness.
Anderson has also hit the headlines after reportedly being fined by his club for an unauthorised trip home to Brazil as well as a much publicised car accident earlier this year.
He has also been repeated linked with moves away from the club, however, since returning to first team action this season the Brazilian has impressed which may now see him rewarded with a new contract.
Sir Alex Ferguson has tipped Anderson for greatness after handing the Brazil midfielder a three-year contract extension at Manchester United.
The 22-year-old's future appeared to be up in the air after injury and disciplinary issues, but he has returned to the United first team in style.
Anderson started just 10 Barclays Premier League games last season and suffered a cruciate knee ligament problem in February.
He hit the headlines again this summer after being involved in a serious car crash in Portugal, but has been attracting attention for the right reason in recent weeks.
'We are delighted Anderson has signed a new contract,' said Ferguson. 'Anderson has developed tremendously since joining the club and he has fantastic potential at only 22 years of age, he is going to be a really top player.'
Watchful eye: Ferguson gestures to Anderson before easing the Brazilian back into first-team action at Manchester United this season
Anderson joined United in a big-money move from Porto in June 2007, signing a five-year contract, but the new deal extends his stay to 2015.
Clubs were lining up to prise him from Old Trafford in the last two transfer windows, but Anderson said: 'This is the best club to be at and I would like to thank everyone for the great support I have received over the years.
'I am looking forward to winning many more trophies with this club and I am so pleased to have signed a new contract.'
great, he has signed a long term contract. he will need to buck up and do better than his last 2 years.
hopefully he can step up his gear like his compatrior Nani.Old men Giggs & Scholes leaving soon man....
this guy ya ya but only average by man u standard.
i laughed when i saw his lame duck free kick just before the stroke of half time in the arsenal game.
This guy is not afraid to run at defenders and he is quite strong on the ball. He also has an eye for the defence splitting pass. Just that as a midfielder, he shd be scoring more goals. A good midfielder with goals is worth many cups to the club down the years. Think eric cantona, beckham and keane.
not forgetting scholes!!
just hope that his signing of this contract signals he will "dive" and disappear again. like some who always chiong when review period is hor..
no la.....i believe all united players possess that innate fire in their belly to do their best always, contract renewal or not lol.
