  ALEX FERGUSON has been handed £100million to strengthen his Manchester United squad.

  The 4-0 humiliation to West Ham in the Carling Cup on Tuesday night showed the lack of depth at Old Trafford.

  Fergie's windfall came after he told United's board he needed to spend big.

  The huge war chest will surprise many of the fans who have opposed the Glazers' regime since they bought the club in 2005 - and lumbered it with £705m of debt.

  United boss Ferguson has always defended the Yanks, despite the fans' 'Green and Gold' campaign to oust them.

  Fergie needs some big players to replace Old Trafford legends Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, who are both probably in their last season.

  And he also wants another top-class striker with only Wayne Rooney and - occasionally - Dimitar Berbatov carrying the goalscoring burden.

  Ferguson defended his squad when Rooney questioned the ambition of the club in October and threatened to quit.

  While the Red Devils were unbeaten this season until the Hammers hammering, they had drawn seven of their 15 Premier League games and are top almost by default.

  United have been impressive in qualifying for the knockout stage of the Champions League.

  And if they keep a clean sheet against Valencia on Tuesday, they will become the first team ever to get through the group stage without conceding a goal.

  I would suggest Fergie to spend the 100m on:

  1. 30m on a World-Class Keeper to replace Van Der Sar. Think De Gea, Buffon, Given.

  2. 30m on a Top-Notch Attacking Midfielder who can dictate play to replace Scholes. Think Kaka, Eden Hazard, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Ibrahim Affellay (Is it too late? LOL)

  3. 40m on a Striker who can score on regular basis. Think Sergio Kun Aguero, Romeru Lukaku(Drogba's natural replacement), Eden Dzenko, Karim Benzema.

  1. Michael Carrick - 5m lelong
  2. Tomasz Kusczcak - 1m (Good Backup. Backup only)
  3. Dimitar Berbatov - 8m lelong
  4. Darron Gibson - 2m (Home Grown Status)

  ya get Bale as well, but left wing is not a priority. priority is a creative midfielder, like sneider. I hope he get sick of rafa's management at Inter and demand a move to united

  Highly doubt so. He rejected United on more than once occasion and went public to declare his interest in United only to commit his future to his club on long term basis.

  Sneijder is probably sniffing at cash and would rather stay at Inter since Rafa's days are numbered.

  Gary Neville, Edwin van der Sar, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes could all retire at the end of this season... The 2 Owens might go as well. So I guess Fergie need to spend quite a sum to replace them all...

  i think if we get bale, fergie would play him as left back in case evra decides to fuck off to real madrid or barca

  I think we can forget about Bale cos City are already setting the benchmark for his price at $45m... So we can forget about United getting into a bidding war with them along with Real and Barce...
