Manchester United is delighted to
announce it has reached agreement with Aalesunds FK to sign Danish
international goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard on a 3½ year deal for an
undisclosed fee.
Personal terms have been agreed with
the player, who passed a medical in Manchester. Anders will train with
United during December, but will be ineligible to play until the
transfer window opens in January 2011.
Sir Alex Ferguson said: “Anders is one of the brightest young keepers in the game. The challenge at Manchester United is always to look to the future and in Anders, we have signed a goalkeeper of great presence and even more promise. Having the time to train with him before he is registered will be an important period for him – almost like a pre season to get him integrated with the other players.”
Anders Lindegaard said: “Joining Manchester United is a dream come true for me. The Club is such an institution in Denmark, it’s an honour to come here. I’m looking forward to playing and training alongside some of the great players in football today. I can’t wait to be part of this team and to make my contribution to keeping the team at the top of the game.”
he wont be no 1 after VDS retire, but he will be an able deputy to whoever is the new No 1 when VDS does retire.
I wont mind seeing Kuzczcak going off since he desires so much to be a number 1.
He could be No.1, Who knows... Vds could stay for another season. Honestly, I don't see why they shouldn't give him another year cos he is still a top top keeper... And this way will also give this Lindegaard some time to get used to the premiership. On another note, it could give United time to see whether he is able to be the next No.1 too...
I really hope De Gea join united. what a top goalie he is at a tender age and he has age on his side. otherwise I will not be disappointed if Buffon is to join united.
Boss greets Lindegaard deal
Sir Alex Ferguson is delighted to have landed Danish goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard.
The manager confirmed to MUTV on Friday morning that talks with the 26 year-old's club Aaselund FK, in Norway, have been successful and the Danish international will become a United player in the new year.
"We've completed that deal," said Sir Alex. "All the negotiations are over and he'll join us in January."
The boss added that the move for Lindegaard is very much about forward planning, for the scenario when United's number one Edwin van der Sar, now 40, hangs up his gloves at the end of an illustrious career.
"We've got to prepare for the day when Edwin finally bows out," said the boss. "I think that's the main reason [we've signed Lindegaard now], to protect us for the future."
Manchester United have agreed a three-and-a-half year deal with Aalesunds FK to sign Danish international goalkeeper Anders Lindergaard for an undisclosed fee.
The 26-year-old passed a medical at Manchester and has agreed personal terms with the club. He will train with United throughout December yet will not be able to feature until the January transfer window opens in 2011.
Sir Alex Ferguson feels that the Dane is a promising signing for United, and indicated that Lindergaard is part of his future plans for the club.
“Anders is one of the brightest young keepers in the game. The challenge at Manchester United is always to look to the future and in Anders, we have signed a goalkeeper of great presence and even more promise,” Ferguson told the club’s official website.
“Having the time to train with him before he is registered will be an important period for him – almost like a pre-season to get him integrated with the other players.”
Lindergaard is clearly thrilled with the move, claiming that Manchester United are giants in Denmark and that it is an honour for him to make the switch.
“Joining Manchester United is a dream come true for me,” said the 26-year-old.
"The Club is such an institution in Denmark, it’s an honour to come here.
"I’m looking forward to playing and training alongside some of the great players in football today.
"I can’t wait to be part of this team and to make my contribution to keeping the team at the top of the game.”
Perhaps he'll follow in the illustrious footsteps of another Danish goalkeeper who became a legend at Old Trafford - Peter Schmeichel.
