Mourinho: Unfinished business with Sir Alex
Jose Mourinho has begged Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson to stick to his promise and dodge retirement for a few more years. The Old Trafford boss said this week he had no intention of calling it a day any time soon despite approaching his 69th birthday. Real Madrid coach Mourinho enjoyed his run-ins with Ferguson during his time at Porto, Chelsea and Inter Milan and the Portuguese legend is looking forward to a few more. Mourinho, speaking after joining Ferguson in the League Managers Association's Hall of Fame, said: “I hope he continues for years and I get to face him a few more times. When I am in my 50s or 60s, I also see myself still in football with the same ambitions and desires. So I understand why he wants to continue. It was the same with Bobby Robson. I see myself continuing for many years.”
Patrice Evra is quoted in The Times on welcoming Wayne Rooney’s return to fitness. The Reds striker came on in the second half of Saturday’s 2-0 win over Wigan for his first appearance since 16 October. Evra says: “It was very good to see him back – good for him and good for us. We are all going to help him get back to his best and scoring goals for United again. He is the sort of player we need if we are going to win the league again.”
