Sir Alex Ferguson will ask veteran playmaker Paul Scholes to put any retirement plans on hold for another year. Manchester United are ready to offer the former England international a 12-month extension. In the summer, the 35-year-old hinted this season could be his last but has since admitted he could be tempted into another year should he maintain a good level of performance. And the United boss is ready to ask Scholes to extend his illustrious professional career to a 19th season. A source said: “United still feel Scholes has plenty to offer and, as it stands, want him to play on. They know they need to bring the average age of the squad down but also understand the importance of Scholes on the pitch and in the dressing room.”
Sam Mokbel, Daily Star.The Daily Express says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is targeting a sensational return to Old Trafford, as manager of United. The Norwegian has agreed to take up the managerial post at former club, Molde FK, and sees the move as the first step to achieving his dream of managing the Reds. Solskjaer said: “Anyone who has played for United would love to manage the club but as Sir Alex Ferguson told me, you need experience and this is the first step for me. Maybe in 25 years, maybe that’s the time for me!”
Elsewhere, Sir Alex’s comments on Manchester City and the derby are widely reported today, with most papers focusing on the gaffer's view on the ‘welcome to Manchester’ poster campaign rather than his admiration for Blues boss Roberto Mancini.
