Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed England striker Wayne Rooney wants to leave Old Trafford.
Just hours before today's much-anticipated press conference, the England striker was carried off on a stretcher during United's training session this morning.
Although Rooney did complete the first part of today's training session - which is open to the media - once the cameras had left he suffered an ankle injury that means he will miss tomorrow's Champions League encounter with Bursaspor at Old Trafford.
The news was revealed at the end of a dramatic five-minute resume of Rooney's status at the club by Ferguson, who confirmed the 24-year-old called off contract negotiations in August.
"David telephoned me and said he was on his way over because he had some bad news," said Ferguson.
"His agent said he wouldn't sign his contract and wanted away."
"I was dumbfounded. Only months before he was saying he was at the greatest club in the world.
"I asked to have a meeting with the boy.
"He reiterated what his agent said, that he wanted to go."

At this point Fergie would be better off offloading him at the best price in the next transfer window.
No point keeping a halfhearted player at such high wages. He might as well just gun for Karim Benzema or something.
But Fergie DID give Rooney a chance to play his best earlier on. After departure of CR7, Fergie arranged him the best position to provide him goal scoring opportunities. But after arrival of Hernandez........ I think Henandez-Berba partnership is solid, There is no necessary to sell him, hope don't make the Tevez transfer mistake again......
Only need Rooney's best form (forget about his recent unhappiness aside) can help Man U to solve the crisis
No way this will happen.......
For those who wanna read more in depth about this news can find Fergie's interview on www.manutd.com
don't really care where he goes.... as long as we get a decent transfer fee... i am not even sad/disappointed really... time for a new era!!!
I've got this feeling that Fergie might be leaving soon.

if its true, he will probably leave when giggs and scholes retire
I wonder if the other players have known that Rooney has been wanting to leave since August.
This must suck for team morale.
i see this as an act of betrayal.. want to leave say early mah... can sell before season start for more $.
It sucks to see them leave 1 by 1.Tevez ronaldo & now rooney.
Rebuilding starts NOW!...

maybe the special one can save us... but will he even want to come over now? the future is looking bleak.

He's always up for a challenge...so you never know.
I thnk rooney will leave for a foreign club. He wanted to escape from fiery British paparazzi.
Let rooney leave and collect some good money (transfer), afterall, he is not like cantona. He very ordinary player except when he on form, other than that, nothing special about him.
At first i thought this was all caused by media frenzy and gossip. Moment when Sir Alex announced that Rooney wants to leave, my heart sank. One mistake after another, Rooney is definitely stepping deeper and deeper into the pit of doom.

Hopefully his new manager can guide him thru, if not...his career will be over.
I lol'ed because he only needs to pay 5m to buy out his contract next year.
Man Utd can get no money out of him,
He is cup tied
His contract is ending
He can buy out for just 5m quid

Man City Mancini? There is nobody better than Sir Alex in guiding Rooney's career. If Rooney thinks the paparazzi can forget about him for his romps, think again. Leaving Man Utd is not going to solve Rooney'[s domestic problems. Sir Alex did the right thing by not fielding him because he is a distraction on the field and dressing room.
