With the current crop of players I foresee a bumpy ride ahead.
Just look at the number of players set to miss the start of the season: Anderson, Hargreaves, Neville, Valencia(Doubt) and Rio(Doubt).
There is definitely a derth of flare players in the squad. Only Rooney and Nani, Anderson seems to have lost his head. Hernandez is an unknown quantity, read that he could even be loaned out.
Plus Fergie's seeming inability to invest in top class internationals in recent seasons and instead having to gamble on raw talent or cheap alternatives like Michael Owen.
probably runner up or third.
as for CL, probably QFs or semi's.
too reliant on Rooney again I suppose.
if man utd managed to get a good playmaker. then man utd shld be can push for the title. if berba managed to get settled in next season, epl will be ours. given the decline in chelsea;s lampard n terry.
Now that WC cuming to an end...
the next few weeks should see some serious transfers...
MAN Utd will be shopping for some players... hopefully they can get their hands on Wesley Sneijder even with strong resistance from Inter Milan...
The current team needs some big signings, to fill in the missing link last season..

decline in lampard and terry? how so? if U go by WC, Rooney, Evra did no better. Rio was out too.
Also, MUFC's average age seems to be higher than Chelsea similiar to the debts situation. MUFC's experienced trio of Scholes/Neville/Giggs are now joined by EDS, Rio, MOwen in their 30+, meaning MUFC will need replacements for them sooner than later. the trio should get lesser play time given the pace/recovery of the game.
WIth the current setup, MUFC is still a major force, and i forseen them to be in the top4 in EPL, UCL at best, quarters.
but I am no Paul, the octopus.
Not based on the wc, but terry was not that good last season, n lampard getting older. I didnt say man utd beats chelsea hands down.
In fact, if theres no serious dealing in the transfer market from man utd, we shld be fighting for fourth place next season due to the rise of man city with some good signings, and also spurs, villa and maybe even liverpool. Man utd have only one top striker, no quality playmaker, a retiring goalkeeper with no able replacement.. hard to see them chasing for the epl ucl title next season.
Man utd looks reluctant to go out and sign players too.. look at the number of players 'throwing' themselves at utd - suarez, sanchez, joecole, ozil, forlan(rumour).
Anyway Sneijder personally stated that he is staying at inter. So, no chance.
I think United's priority at the moment is to buff up their midfield with an attacking midfielder/playmaker.
Please don't mention Gibson, he's seriously over rated.
It would be awesome if United could bring in another striker and rid of Berbatov....
As I'm hoping Fergie sticks with the 4-3-3/4-5-1 formation, he needn't be a world class striker, just someone who can make a difference upon being called upon from the bench.
Last season's bench was seriously lacking in impact players. BBT, Owen, Obertan, Gibson etc wtf? I even remember a few matches Fergie had to call on Rafael, as a right back, to "change" the game. -_-
