While the nation waits for brave Roo to spearhead England's attack against the USA in South Africa tomorrow, the striker is sweating on a court case nearly 6,000 miles away at home in Manchester.
A judge is expected to announce today whether Rooney and wife Coleen will be forced to pay the huge sum to their former agents Proactive.
They are being sued by the sports management firm, which claims it is owed 20 per cent of the couple's earnings since they split from the company in 2008.
Rooney's agent Paul Stretford was a director of Proactive until the bust-up two years ago and he took Wayne and Coleen with him.
Proactive insist they are owed millions in commissions on contracts agreed before the split.
The case went before the Manchester Mercantile Court in February and Roo gave evidence in support of Stretford, saying he was the man he wanted as his representative.
Now Judge Brandan Heggarty QC is finally ready to deliver judgment, albeit at the most inopportune of times.
