Redknapp's £40million spree
Harry Redknapp will be given a £40m transfer kitty for Spurs’ assault on the Champions League – with Michael Carrick topping his wanted list. The Tottenham manager is aiming to boost his squad so they are up to scratch in the European Cup. And at the same time the Spurs board plan to offer new deals to Redknapp and star men Ledley King and Gareth Bale. Tottenham’s top transfer targets will include the former White Hart Lane midfielder Michael Carrick, who is dropping down the pecking order at Manchester United.

Edwin van der Sar tells The Daily Mirror that he is shocked to still be playing at the top level. “I thought that I would be at United for two years and then maybe go and do something else. Instead I am steadily trying to reach my testimonial," says the Dutchman.
Rio Ferdinand has declared himself fit and ready for United's final day clash with Stoke City, plus England's World Cup campaign, telling The Mirror: "I just want to get out there, play some football and be successful."
Finally, Wigan manager Roberto Martinez has bullishly declared his players 'arrogant' enough to do United a last-day favour at Stamford Bridge. “I know everyone expects Chelsea to win - and rightly so,” says the Spaniard. “But we have nothing to lose. We have a very, very young squad, but they are arrogant in the right manner and on the day we can beat anyone."
