Is David Moyes the man to take the reins at Old Trafford?
Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has described as "summer speculation madness" reports that David Moyes has been anointed as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor as Manchester United, and warned that he will "fight tooth and nail" to retain the services of his manager.
It has been reported that Ferguson sees Moyes as his replacement at Old Trafford and that Everton would not stand in the manager's way should he be chosen to succeed his fellow Scot when Ferguson finally ends his reign at United.
Rebuttals have been swift, with Ferguson describing the claims as "rubbish" and Moyes labelling them "nonsense". Now Kenwright has also attempted to quell speculation by denying that Everton would be happy to see Moyes move to Old Trafford.
"It's absolute nonsense to infer that we would let David depart for Manchester United with our blessing," Kenwright told the Liverpool Echo. "If a day like that ever did occur, Evertonians know that I would fight tooth and nail to keep our manager where he belongs.
"Everyone will have read both David Moyes and Alex Ferguson's comments and what they both describe as typical summer speculation madness. David Gill and I have a similar friendship to David and Alex Ferguson, and we too have laughed it off."
