United executives have made it clear that improvements to Fletcher's existing wages are a top priority.
Fletcher is currently paid £3million a year basic at United, but manager Sir Alex Ferguson now recognises him as one of the most important players at the club.
The United midfielder, outstanding in last week's victory over Liverpool, has two years left on his existing deal. But he will be catapulted into a new pay scheme at the end of the season.
Fellow midfielder Michael Carrick is paid £80,000 a week, with the added incentive of a lucrative image rights contract on the side.
Paul Scholes commands a similar salary. Now that Fletcher is considered their equal he will be paid a similar sum.
With the obvious exception of Wayne Rooney, Scotland captain Fletcher has been United's most consistent player this season.
Despite missing out on last season's Champions League final through suspension, he has emerged as a stronger player this year.
He scored the best goal of his career with a volley from outside the area in a 3-0 victory against Everton in November.
But it is his hard-working performances in the centre of midfield that have marked him out this season and are the reason United will tie him down to an improved deal.
United expect negotiations with Fletcher to run smoothly.
dun think he will leave united. he will follow giggs and scholes footsteps, play until he is in his 30s.

well, Scholes/Giggs are N those who run themselves to the ground type so they can last. Fletcher is doing a fanastic job but a lot of wear/tear may curtail his career beyond the 30+. IMHO.
still low, he deserves a higher salary than that.

fletcher is overrated, his goal and assist to game record is low. in fact, he deserves 40-50k per week maximum. if he goes to arsenal, it might be even lower.

If you want to rate him with goal/assist, look elsewhere. Fletcher is not in this department.
fletcher is a spoiler, or what cantona said, water carrier. his contribution to the team is his tackle and preventing the opponent from passing around. he is there to protect the back 4.

You dont watch much soccer do you? Do you know how Real Madrid Crumble without Makelele? Why Arsenal had Vieira, then Flamini and now Song? Why Chelsea bought Makelele, Essien and push Obi Mikel? Why Mascherano and Lucas is playing for Liverpool? And last but not least, the roles of Carrick and Fletcher for United? These are just examples from EPL, here're some more:
Real Madrid : Lassana Diarra, Mahamadou Diarra, Fernando Gago
Barcelona: Seydou Keita, Yaya Toure, Sergio Busquets
Inter Milan: Javier Zanetti, Thiago Motta, Sulley Muntari, Esteban Cambiasso
AC Milan: Gennaro Gattuso, Matthieu Flamini, Massimo Ambrosini
Juventus: Felipe Melo, Claudio Machisio.
Ok, i shall stop here, u get my point right?
Oh yeah, just to add on, i think to balance out the wages, Hargreaves must go. So far the only contribution that remains in my mind of him is the freekick against Arsenal 2 years ago. Yes, 2 years ago.

u got use your eyes watch football games or not. Fletcher is a destroyer; ie assists and goals dun really matter as much as his tackles, holding up play, destroying momentum.
wah lan eh...knn....talk cock sia.
i used to kua suay fletcher....until starting from 2 years back, i realised he has become so composed on the ball. I wonder if hargreaves is even needed now.
yes you are right. hargreaves must be damn worried for his place in the team, now that fletcher, much younger than himself, can get his place back when he return to the first team. hargreaves already 29 and he has almost lost the last 2 years thru injury
