Times up: Out of favour Foster looks destined to leave Old Trafford
Sunderland and Stoke are each considering a move for goalkeeper Ben Foster, whose time is up at Manchester United.
Premier League clubs have been alerted that the 26-year-old England World Cup hopeful — now third choice at Old Trafford behind Edwin van der Sar and Tomasz Kuszczak — is available for £4million.
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is keen even though his Scotland No1 Craig Gordon is returning from a shoulder injury while Stoke know all about their old boy Foster, whom they sold to United for £1m.
Stoke’s move for Portsmouth keeper David James collapsed last week after Pompey insisted the loan ran until June 30.
Just do it, sell him when he's worth something.
4m nia? since united dun need to sell foster immediately, can lelong for higher fee, like 5-7m, since he is an england international and is still young for a goalie.
He is a player who cannot at the big stage at Old Trafford, he has talent but is all nerves, sell him for whatever you get.
Wow
come on sunderland go get him
Manchester United have said Ben Foster is not for sale, having fielded a discreet inquiry from Tottenham Hotspur about the England goalkeeper.
Harry Redknapp says he has not made a bid for Foster but the Tottenham manager is known to be in the market for cover in that position.
Carlo Cudicini, signed by Redknapp from Chelsea last January, is a long-term absentee with the career-threatening wrist and pelvis injuries that he suffered in a motorcycle accident in November.
Redknapp is also monitoring the progress of a clutch of promising goalkeepers: Scott Loach of Watford, Coventry City's Keiren Westwood and Joe Lewis of Peterborough United.
