Mac delight: Federico Macheda has put pen to paper on a new four-year deal
Federico Macheda has put pen to paper on a new four-year contract at Old Trafford to tie the promising striker to Manchester United until 2013.
The former Lazio teenager, 18, will benefit from an incredible rise in his income having pocketed around £400 a week from his existing three-year youth scholarship deal.
The Italy Under-21 star made a stunning impact from the bench on his United debut to score a memorable last-minute against Aston Villa in April to set Sir Alex Ferguson's side on their way to defending their Barclays Premier League crown last season.
Macheda, who starred in United's 2-0 Carling Cup quarter-final final over Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night, went on to make five first team appearances, scoring twice last year.
'I am very happy to commit my future to Manchester United,' said Macheda.
'I really enjoyed myself last season when I came on and I hope to get more chances like that and contribute to the team's success.'
One for the future: Ferguson is delighted to tie Macheda down to a new deal
Despite failing to register a single strike in four outings so far this term, and yet to feature in the league, Macheda is certain to play a big part in the club's future.
'We are delighted by the new four year deal,' said United boss Ferguson. 'Everyone at the club recognises the fantastic talent he has and we hope to see that develop in the next years, so he becomes a well rounded player.'
