  ALEX FERGUSON has got the referee who gives him most grief for Manchester United's Premier League return. 

  Mark Clattenburg - who has had explosive run-ins with Ferguson - takes charge of Bolton's visit to Old Trafford on Saturday. 

  A former top ref said last night the choice by the game's officiating board was an attempt to 'get' Fergie for blasting Alan Wiley's fitness. 

  The ex-FIFA ref said: "Clattenburg at Old Trafford? Brilliant. I'm sure they've done it on purpose to get at Ferguson over his treatment of Wiley and his pathetic 'apology'." 

  Ferguson, sweating on an FA charge for his Wiley attack, was given a two-match touchline ban and fined £5,000 for using "insulting words" against Clattenburg in November 2007. 

  He was also sent to the stands during the 1-0 defeat at Bolton. 

  Then Fergie blew his top at Clattenburg after he booked seven United players against Spurs in February last year. United were fined £25,000. 

  Clattenburg, taking charge of a United match for the first time since that Spurs clash, has publicly backed Wiley.

  He said: "You try to be in the best position to make a decision and, forget about the politics of Alan's fitness levels, if you look back at his decision-making, it was practically faultless."

  Rio will make good lar, dun worry. the more he play, the more he will become. class is permanent, form is temporary. the same cannot be said of ben foster, who dun have class and form. how to be man utd goalie like that.

  i do hope he get some rest. he is running to the ground with the games he has to play and the weight on his shoulders. but no discredit to bolton, this is not an easy game given United, maybe has to play against 12 men.

  Sidelined: Wayne Rooney will watch the Bolton match from the stands

   

  Wayne Rooney is out of Manchester United's clash with Bolton. The striker was sidelined from England's midweek win over Belarus after hobbling off with a calf injury in the World Cup qualifying defeat in Ukraine last Saturday.

  Despite returning straight to United's Carrington training ground for treatment, the striker will not be fit to face the Trotters, when Edwin van der Sar will be in goal.

  Ferguson does retain an outside hope that Rooney will be available for
  Wednesday's Champions League trip to CSKA Moscow.

  However, Rooney's first child is due to be born around that date so the striker may sit it out anyway. A return for the key clash with Liverpool at Anfield on October 25 is more likely.

  'Calf injuries can be troublesome,' said United boss Sir Alex Ferguson. 'We are trying our best to get him fit for Wednesday but I have my doubts on that. 

  'Wayne should be fit for the Liverpool game. We know how difficult these things can be so we will not be taking anychances with the Moscow trip.'

  For Van der Sar it is a welcome first appearance of the season after he broke two fingers during a friendly with Bayern Munich in July.

  Ben Foster has had his difficulties in goal since and Ferguson has no hesitation in bringing the veteran Dutchman back.

  'Edwin plays tomorrow,' said Ferguson. 'He had a reserve game 10 days ago and has come through that fine. 

  'He has been training for quite a spell now but with a hand injury you don't take any chances and that game has given him a good confidence boost.'

  Ferguson also confirmed Michael Own is available after a recent groin problem, although the Scot is still waiting for the return of Dimitar Berbatov, whose partner has had a baby in their native Bulgaria, to declare whether he is in the right frame of mind to play before deciding on his final line-up.

  Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will wait for the return of Dimitar Berbatov from Bulgaria before finalising his line-up for Saturday's Old Trafford clash with Bolton.

  Aside from two games for his country, Berbatov has also been with his partner, who has just given birth to the couple's child, so Ferguson will need to ensure his £30.75million record signing is in the right frame of mind to face Gary Megson's side.

  Wayne Rooney (calf) is definitely out, while United also have doubts over Darren Fletcher but Michael Owen returns after a groin problem and Edwin van der Sar will make his first appearance of the season after suffering two broken fingers during a pre-season trip to Munich.

   

  Sam Ricketts is Bolton manager Gary Megson's only fresh injury concern.

  Defender Ricketts is a doubt after pulling out of Wales' World Cup qualifiers with an ankle problem. Johan Elmander returns to the Wanderers attack after missing the 2-2 draw with Tottenham with a hamstring injury.

  Sean Davis and Joey O'Brien are both long-term absentees with knee problems.

  ALEX FERGUSON admitted he was left sweating during a late Bolton bombardment.

  His Manchester United side were cruising home after they took a 2-0 lead.

  But Matt Taylor hauled the Trotters back in it before Bolton's all-in raid put Fergie in a spin.

  The United boss said: "It was more tense than we would have liked.

  "We made it hard for ourselves and we were panicking at times. But we got through it, just."

  Chelsea and Liverpool's twin defeats saw United climb back to the top of the table.

  But Ferguson wasn't shocked by his arch rivals' slip-ups.

  He added: "This is a tough league.

  "There have been some surprise results already. But we have had a couple ourselves, losing at Burnley and drawing at home to Sunderland."

  Ivan Klasnic had a goal ruled out during Bolton's desperate assault, with Ricardo Gardner pulled up for a foul on Edwin van der Sar.

  And Gary Megson fumed: "It was a ridiculous decision.

  "Ricardo clearly got to the ball in front of Van der Sar. I didn't think it was a free-kick at all."

  but still think the MF a bit weak.. and it seems teams like to play the ball from left to right, so as to use height vs evra..
