Bordeaux's Obertan Set To Join United
According to several French media reports, Bordeaux's Gabriel Obertan
will sign for Manchester United today. L'Equipe claims that an
agreement between the clubs has been in place for several weeks now but
the fee won't be announced.
The paper, which rarely prints rubbish, quotes Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud who said: 'It's actually a great opportunity. We would love to see Gabriel improving at such a club.'
A
move for Obertan would certainly be a surprise: the young winger - also
capable of playing a second striker or an attacking central midfielder
- is believed to have a bright future ahead of him but he did not set
the world on fire at Bordeaux last season and he was loaned out to
Lorient for the second part of the campaign where he did well but
wasn't outstanding.
So all in all it smells like David Bellion
Mark II - but who knows, bigger Fergie gambles turned out to be huge
successes. More to follow if there's any official confirmation or
denial of the story.

On July 6th, 2009, French newspaper L'Équipe suggests that Bordeaux have reached an agreement with English champions Manchester United for the transfer of Gabriel Obertan. The transfer fee is undisclosed.[3]
oh i remember this guy from playing football manager. he is pretty good according to his stats. but i have not seen him in real life. hopefully he is not another Nani, who promises huge but only disappoints.

Channel hopper: Gabriel Obertan lines up for Bordeaux at Chelsea last September
Manchester United are on the brink of signing France Under 21 winger Gabriel Obertan from Bordeaux.
An undisclosed fee was agreed between the two clubs several weeks ago and a deal could be concluded today, according to respected French newspaper L'Equipe.
The 20-year-old, who has also been tracked by Inter Milan, AC Milan, Chelsea and Arsenal, can play on the wing or up front.
Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud said: 'It's a great possibility. Manchester want him and we would be delighted to see Gabriel evolving at such a big club. Everything shall become official in time.'
The move has been met with surprise in France. Obertan was farmed out by Bordeaux for a six-month loan to Lorient last season, where he scored once in 15 Ligue 1 appearances.
He would follow Antonio Valencia from Wigan Athletic and former Newcastle United striker Michael Owen as first-team signings since the £80million departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid.

Gabriel Obertan: Bordeaux youngster has starred for France's U21
Manchester United are closing in on promising Bordeaux winger Gabriel Obertan. The 20-year-old is having a medical ahead of a probable move to Old Trafford.
United look to have won the race for the France Under-21 star, who has been also been linked with Inter Milan, AC Milan and Arsenal.
Reports in France say a £3million fee has been agreed and Obertan will sign a four-year contract.
Bordeaux sent him on loan for the second half of last season to Lorient where he made 15 appearances, scoring one goal.
Club president Jean-Louis Triaud stated on Monday it was a "great possibility'' United would sign Obertan.
Obertan scored against England Under-21s in March and took the Most Valuable Player award at last month's Toulon International youth tournament.
one thing la, not sure what his position is.. some said winger, striker, midfielder.
now, even Blanc said he is surprised MU signed as he was not even in the first team and needs some refinement. siao la..
Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Bordeaux winger Gabriel Obertan.
Gabriel Obertan: Now a Red Devil
The 20-year-old has agreed a four-year contract with the Premier League champions.
Obertan, a Paris-born France Under-21 international who can fill several attacking roles, will have to wait for his first-team bow, however, as an unspecified minor injury will keep him out of United's forthcoming tour of the Far East.
Obertan underwent a medical yesterday and reports in France have claimed he will cost the Red Devils around £3million.
"Gabriel is a player we have tracked for a few years now, but because of his educational programme our efforts to get him here have always been delayed,'' United manager Sir Alex Ferguson told www.manutd.com.
"We are delighted to get him now as he is an exciting prospect. We like to get young players and develop them, and we will see that in Gabriel over the next two years.''
Bordeaux sent Obertan on loan to Lorient for the second half of last season where he made 15 appearances, scoring one goal.
"I am very happy to join Manchester United,'' the player added. "This is a big opportunity for me to play at such a great club. I am very excited to be here and I look forward to proving what I can do.''
Obertan scored against England Under-21s in March and took the Most Valuable Player award at last month's Toulon International youth tournament.
He becomes Ferguson's third signing of the close season after Antonio Valencia and Michael Owen, while Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez have led the departures in an already eventful summer at Old Trafford.
