KARIM Benzema has snubbed United and is off to Real Madrid for £30m.
And Franck Ribery today revealed he wants to leave Bayern Munich and also join Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo at the Spanish giants.
Benzema
and Ribery were the biggest names on Sir Alex Ferguson's summer
shopping list and their decisions to head for Spain is a crushing blow
for the Reds, who are now running short of options to replace Ronaldo
and Carlos Tevez.
Benzema's club Lyon announced last night that they had agreed a deal with Real for the 21-year-old striker.
"A
few days ago, Karim Benzema informed president Jean Michel Aulas of his
wish to join Madrid, which has always been his preference after Lyon,
quicker than it was initially considered," said a Lyon statement.
"The player wished to seize the opportunity that
was offered to him by Real, which was to be one of the major elements
of the club's new, ambitious policy built around some of the largest
players in the world."
Capture
Benzema's
capture takes Madrid's summer spending close to £200m already. And they
could add to that with Benzema's France team-mate Ribery now revealing
he wants to leave the Bundesliga.
"I have decided that I
want to leave. It will be Real Madrid or nothing," said the
26-year-old. "I would like to hold talks with the Bayern management
soon."
It leaves United's transfer business in chaos, despite signing Wigan's Antonio Valencia for £16m on a four-year deal.
Fergie
could now switch his sights to Atletico Madrid's Argentine front man
Sergio Aguero or consider a swoop for Real's Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
salary give by RM is crazy. of cos go there
then we hear Vidic's wife wanting to leave..is it the weather or just Gill/SAF's foul up? or EPL losing its appeal??
we failed to sign those who doesn't want to leave (tevez) and failed to sign those who doesn't want to come...

Yea tt 1 thing for sure, plus england got tt tax thing now.
oh okie, it is only 2nd day of transfer market, and besides all the top names mentioned have said they wanted to go RM anyway.
Trust in SAF and he will bring in players that can push the team forward.
Let's hope he is able to get replacements for aging Giggs/Scholes, that one or two special gems..
i believe the 50% tax plays a significant part

Yeah still a long time to go, but i hope to see at least 1 more signing soon. Though i wan the next to be Aguero hahaz.
Its the tax, if im not wrong.
There are two reasons:
REASON ONE
Footballers prefer Real Madrid simply because it is offering highest salary.
Google for the 50p tax rule imposed by the Labour Party (Gordon Brown) and you will understand why.
During contract negotiations, Class A footballers demand wages that are post-tax. This means English clubs will find it alot tougher to match or exceed the wages that are offered by Spanish Clubs.
REASON TWO
Footballers prefer Madrid because they believe Real Madrid will never go bust (like Leeds FC).
The legal structure of Spain is that each province is fairly autonomous in its insolvency laws. For deep seated clubs like Barcelona (Catalonia) and Real Madrid (Madrid), the legal autonomy means that well connected Presidents are in a position to hold off insolvency by leveraging on the interests of creditors (being ironically also the same people as the investors in the club) - no matter how indebted the club becomes.
There are arguments against the viability of the "high debt - high revenue" model of business model for football club (Google for these yourself), but for Madrid this appears to be working.
Although Man Utd under the Glaziers is also operating on the "high debt - high revenue" model, Man Utd cannot take on as much debt as Real Madrid, because (i) the legal regime for insolvency in UK is less forgiving; and (ii) Man Utd is a publicly listed club bound by need to show profit to shareholders.

i concur..
note that the only club that falls outside these restrictions is Man City
Man City have limitless funds, because it all comes from oil...tax considerations dun matter

regarding the tax thingy, players could ask for wages after tax ie the wages received is net, not gross, after tax.
at a time of crisis, they go implement this kinda taxation, really put off expatriates from settling and living in England. the politicians know what they are doing or not?
Lol next time see got any turban or desert people buy over Man Utd from those Glazers not lor. Imagine bill gate buy over LOL, manutd jersey got microsoft word there.
the weather is one of the reasons, not the main reasons though. I know its always raining and cold one.
the taxation also, going to implement in April next year?
the national dish is fish and chips lol, not many like to eat that.
standard of living is quite high in england as well.
