  Sir Alex to bid for Benzema Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to rebuild his shattered strike force with a £30million bid for French star Karim Benzema. The United boss returns from holiday this week and will try to patch up his depleted squad with his biggest summer transfer splurge ever. Benzema is United’s prime target and despite publicly resisting a transfer, Lyon are already making moves to replace their 21-year-old striker. Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter Milan have looked at Benzema but United, with the cash from the Ronaldo deal, head the queue and progress is expected this week. Simon Bird, Daily Mirror The Daily Telegraph features quotes from Benzema's agent who says his client wants to stay in France for another year to prepare for the World Cup. Former French international Marcel Desailly has urged Sir Alex to pay 'as much as it takes' to sign Franck Ribery from Bayern Munich. "I would put Ribery in the top two wingers in the world. It's Cristiano Ronaldo and then straight away after it's Ribery," insisted Desailly. Meanwhile, the Mirror reckon Carlos Tevez agreed to join Manchester City two weeks ago and will complete the £47.5 million transfer in the next few days. The paper also features quotes from United striker Fraizer Campbell who is stalling on his £6million move to Hull City. He refused to commit his future to the East coast club yesterday, despite the fee being agreed a fortnight ago.

  Karim Benzema's agent has reiterated his client's intention to remain at Lyon for another season. 

  Speculation regarding an imminent move to Manchester United has intensified of late, with the Red Devils keen to bolster their attacking options. 

  With Cristiano Ronaldo on his way to Real Madrid, and with Carlos Tevez unwilling to stay at the club, Sir Alex Ferguson had indentified Benzema as a top target. 

  United have money spend, and Lyon president Jen-Michel Aulas has conceded that a big offer could force the French club's hand, but the striker's agent claims United would find it difficult to sign the 21-year-old. 

  With the 2010 World Cup finals weighing on the mind of Europe's top talents, Karim Djaziri has revealed that Benzema feels his preparations for that tournament would be better served by spending another season in France. 

  "Karim is on holiday at the moment and he is not thinking of moving," he said. 

  "He wants to stay in France for another year so that he can prepare for the World Cup and I think that Sir Alex knows this. 

  "Perhaps he wants to make an offer to Lyon. If that happens, then Karim will think about it, but as things stand, Karim wants to stay with Lyon for another year."

  because of world cup year? lame reason to stay put. even if he join a new club, if he is good, he will be selected for the national team for the world cup what, lol

  probably he will be home sick. he loves france so much that he dun want to move abroad :) join Man Utd la, cause its very near to france, just cross the english channels, like sg crossing the causeway to reach JB le lol

  EPL if no or little foreigners, dun think they can win the CL. the english players just dun have the flair. all hustle, bustle, long balls, and hard work. the only english players with flair and world class are rooney, gerrard, lampard.
