Tony Pulis has played dumb to suggestions that he is attempting to lure Paul Scholes away from Manchester United.
Speculation surfaced at the end of last month that Pulis, who is known to be on good terms with Sir Alex Ferguson, had offered Scholes one last season as a player and a subsequent route into coaching.
Scholes’ prior admission that ‘not playing every week is an adjustment you don’t like making’ merely added fuel to the fire.
"He's a player of genuine quality, one most managers would give their right arm for,” said Pulis in the Stoke Sentinel.
“But I have absolutely no idea where the story came from. I have far too much respect for United's manager to speak to anyone other than Sir Alex Ferguson himself about any Manchester United player."
One player already plying his trade at The Britannia Stadium, Thomas Sorensen, has been subject to recent conjecture surrounding a move to Bayern Munich – a rumour that Pulis was keen to shoot down.
"Those reports are a load of nonsense as far as I'm concerned,” he added. “We are playing in the greatest league in the world and you'd have to ask why Thomas would want to move out of it at this stage. He's more than happy here as far as I'm aware.
"He had a great first season for us last year and I have to say how much I was impressed by his stature about the place. His experience and calibre was just what we needed as we stepped into the big time."
