Hull have confirmed they have had an offer for Manchester United striker Fraizer Campbell accepted by the Premier League champions, and have been given permission to discuss personal terms with the player.
Reports in the media on Sunday suggested Phil Brown’s side had made an approach for the England Under-21 international, who spent last season on loan at Tottenham.
Campbell struck 15 goals in 34 appearances in The Championship during a season-long loan spell at The KC Stadium during the 2007-08 campaign, helping The Tigers to promotion to the top flight via the play-offs.
His goalscoring exploits secured him a place in Hull fans’ hearts, but he was loaned to Spurs at the beginning of Hull’s first season in The Premier League as part of the deal which took Dimitar Berbatov to United from White Hart Lane.
Hull did try to secure Campbell’s permanent signature last September, bidding a club-record fee, but were unsuccessful in their pursuit.
They have now managed to reach a deal with United, and are believed to have offered £6 million for the striker.
“Following reports in the media this weekend, the club can confirm that it has had an offer accepted by Manchester United for striker Fraizer Campbell,” read a short statement on Hull’s official website.
“Consequently, the club has been given permission to open talks with Campbell.”
