Manchester United’s Park Ji-sung was shocked to have to deny that he was joining UAE club Al Jazira in a press conference in Dubai on Tuesday evening.There have been reports in the English media suggesting that the South Korean star could be surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
After playing for his country in a friendly against Oman on Tuesday, preparation for this Saturday’s 2010 World Cup qualifier against UAE, local media wanted to know if Park would be playing in the local league next season.
“Are the rumours true about you joining Al Jazira?” asked a reporter at the post-match press conference at the Al Wasl Stadium in Dubai.
“That’s the first time to hear that. It’s not true," a clearly surprised Park, who was substituted at half-time, said,
The reporter repeated the question and Park answered: “I want to stay and play in Europe.”
The goalless draw with Oman may have been a disappointing result but Park was sure that the group leaders will step it up against the bottom team this weekend.
“It was a good warm-up for our 2010 World Cup qualifier with UAE,” Park told reporters after the match.
"In order to adapt to the humid conditions in the middle-east, we need more time." “It was a typical warm-up game with players trying to avoid injury. You will see a different performance against UAE.”
South Korea lead their qualification group and a win in Dubai would put the taeguk Warriors on the brink of a seventh successive World Cup. -
