Manchester United defender Jonny Evans is targeting an improvement on his 33 appearances for the club this season, after admitting he did not envisage being such a regular fixture for The Red Devils.
The Northern Ireland international became a sturdy member of United’s backline in a season when he was called upon to fill in due to injuries and suspensions.
Evans proved more than capable of covering for Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, featuring in league, Cup and European games as an able deputy.
"I've had over 25 starts this season and a few substitute appearances," he said. "Looking back at the start of the season, I definitely didn't think I would play this much.
"I've been helped along with a few injuries to some of the other players in defence, but I've enjoyed playing in some pretty big games this season.
"I've played in the two Chelsea games, which was great, especially the one at Old Trafford that we won 3-0.
"The other game I really enjoyed playing in was Inter Milan at the San Siro. That was a great experience and I just hope there are plenty more like that to come next season."
