United matched Liverpool's 18 top-flight titles by picking up the point they needed against Arsenal to see off the Kop's challenge.
But Ferguson, winning his 11th Premier League, insisted passing Liverpool by making it 19 next year would be even sweeter.
He said: “I am already thinking about next year. You have to do it here. There is nothing else for it, you just drive on.
"It would be more special if we were to get in front of Liverpool.
"And that is the great challenge now - to try to win it next year because that would be something special.
"It would be a 19th league title and give us a special place in the club’s history.
"That was the target - to get past Liverpool. They were the greatest team in the land. But I never imagined we would get 11 titles, never in a million years.
"Liverpool's players have done really well. It was a great challenge from them.
“But we have a great side, a great squad. I could have picked two teams today. It’s not easy.”
Fergie, 67, also revealed he has no plans to retire.
He said: “I’m not contemplating it, I’ll carry on. I’m going to stay as a manager and my health will tell me when to quit.”
