Manchester United youngster Federico Macheda has been called into the Italy Under-21 squad for the first time.
Former Chelsea striker Pierluigi Casiraghi has been impressed with the Red Devils rookie's dramatic impact this term and named him in a 40-man provisional party for the European Championship finals in Sweden.
The tournament takes place in June and the party will be whittled down to 23 before the event gets underway.
Macheda will hope to retain a spot and continue to enhance his reputation after his goals against Aston Villa and Sunderland helped fire United to the brink of another title.
Lecce's Andrea Esposito is the other new face in the squad and there are some big names involved such as Mario Balotelli and Sebastian Giovinco.
