Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has put an end to rumours about his future by confirming he plans to stay at the Stadio Olimpico di Torino.
The 31-year-old Italy international has been linked with moves to both Manchester City and Manchester United recently after suggesting he was concerned about Juve’s ability to compete for silverware.
However, after holding talks with part-owner John Elkann and managing director Jean-Claude Blanc, he says he is now fully committed to the club.
“I am sure you will have heard things on TV and read things in the newspapers in recent days,” he said on his official website.
“I can now make it official: I am not going to leave Turin next season and I will continue to be the Juventus goalkeeper.
“I have held two sets of talks with John Elkann and Jean-Claude Blanc and both have given me reassurances about the future of this club and this team.
“My fears weren’t about whether we would end up without a trophy next season but about whether we would do so in the next three or four seasons.
“I, and everyone else, want to see a competitive team that can compete with anyone. My concerns have been dealt with and I am now calm about this.”
is he still so good?
