Sir Alex Ferguson's daughter-in-law and grandson have been seriously injured in a road accident, police have said.
Nadine Ferguson, 30, wife of Sir Alex's son Darren, was airlifted to hospital in Manchester after the crash near her home in Cheshire on Tuesday morning.
The couple's 10-year-old son was treated at Alder Hey Children's Hospital, Liverpool, where he was said to be "very serious, but stable".
His six-year-old sister was treated for minor injuries at Leighton Hospital.
"Their mother was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital where her condition is serious," a Cheshire police spokesman said.
Mrs Ferguson's black Vauxhall Corsa was in collision with a Ford Fiesta on Trap Street, Lower Withington, Macclesfield, at about 0825 BST.
Mrs Ferguson is separated from Sir Alex's son, Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson, 37.
On Tuesday evening, Sir Alex watched Manchester United beat Arsenal 3-1 in the semi-final second leg of the Champions League.
