In the clear: Kaka won't be kept against his will at Milan
AC Milan will not stand in the way if Kaka wants to join Manchester United in the summer. Club owner Silvio Berlusconi hopes to persuade the brilliant Brazilian to stay at the San Siro, but insisted it was not the club's style to hold on to players against their will.
Sportsmail understands that United see Kaka as the ideal signing should Cristiano Ronaldo leave for Real Madrid in the summer and they are preparing to open the bidding at about the £50million mark.
Milan accepted a £100m bid from Manchester City in January before the player rejected a move to Eastlands and Berlusconi is sure his 27-year-old is still commited to the Rossoneri.
'Will Kaka stay? I hope so,' Berlusconi, the Italian prime minister, told an Italian TV station. 'You have all seen how we behave at Milan, we do not have the attitude of forcing our will on players.
'Those who stay are happy to remain with us. When (Andriy) Shevchenko told us he wanted to play in England, and everyone knows how much we all loved him here, we didn’t feel it was right to say no. His was a strong desire, repeated to us often.'
Intermediaries of the Premier League champions will meet Milan in the next week to discuss figures and the possibility of luring the brilliant playmaker to Old Trafford.
Sportsmail revealed last month that Real Madrid are convinced they can finally strike a £75million deal for Portugal winger Ronaldo, 24.
Madrid are also keen on Kaka, but are unlikely to sign him and the FIFA World Player of the Year. Chelsea have also maintained an interest in the former Sao Paulo star, who has indicated in the past that he intends to test himself in the Barclays Premier League before the end of his career.
Although he snubbed a lucrative move to City in January, there are suggestions that he has become unsettled by Milan's decision to accept a bid for him.
There are also concerns that Milan have not replaced their ageing stars and he recently pleaded in vain for the club to sign Steven Gerrard from Liverpool.
