WAYNE ROONEY is a major injury doubt for Alex Ferguson as he bids to stop Manchester United’s season going down the pan.
Rooney was hit hard on the ribs by the ball at the end of the first half of the Red Devils’ 2-2 Champions League quarter-final first leg at home to Porto on Tuesday night.
He bravely played on but was clearly in some discomfort as he left the ground after the game. Striker Rooney, 23, will be checked today and the hope is he has only heavy bruising. But even that could keep him out of Saturday’s trip to Sunderland.
United have lost two of their last three Premier League games and only won Sunday’s home clash with Aston Villa 3-2 thanks to a last-gasp goal.
They gave up a 2-1 lead against Porto to draw 2-2. It is now likely they will have to become the only English club to win at Porto if they want to progress into the semis.
And with Dimi Berbatov still out with an ankle problem, it will be a massive blow to be without Rooney on Wearside.
Boss Ferguson is also sweating over Rio Ferdinand, who has a groin injury. Fellow defender Jonny Evans is likely to miss the game with a similar problem.

For once, I don't see Carrick tracking back, I guess he is just too tired. SAF even commented Park looks tired. End of day, I bet SAF has to gamble on how to deploy his resources. EPL, UCL or FA cup...

This game is not going to be a walk in the park... With defenders like...
Neville / O'Shea / Vidic / Evra
I am worry... Sunderland are fighting to beat the drop so you can bet they will go all out for this since this being a home match... At this point of the season, playing mid table teams are better than those at the bottom cos those with still a chance will really fight for the points...
Berbatov is already out for this and if Rooney also out... A big problem...

with gary neville missing for 2 or 3 months and just came back and also, he was missing for the last 2 years, you could see that he is clearly not match fit and dodgy. The sooner he retire the better cos he is clearly over the hill, plus he is so injury prone. If fergie insists of playing him at RB, he need to assign the right winger to track back and offer gary protection. Park Ji Sung can do that as his stamina is superd. As for O'Shea, I am so sick of his misplaced passing and silly little errors. He couldnt defend if his life depended on it. That said about the state of Man Utd defending. Clearly, Man Utd needed to outscore the opponents now to win the match. Since it cant defend and surely concede goals, why not change strategy to all out attack. If concede 2 goals, then need to score 3 to win.

Neville isn't suppose to play so many matches... Its because injury to most of the other defenders have made it necessary for him to play... He is 34 how many game can he play? He also need to rest 1 full week before he plays again but right now... They don't have that option...

Not long ago sunderland park a bus infront of goal and it took manchester united almost the whole 90 mins and Vidic to score.
And that was at old trafford.
