Roberto Mancini rejected the chance to join Manchester United as Sir Alex Ferguson's assistant.
The
former Inter coach was approached by the Red Devils, who had plans to
offer him a role at Old Trafford. However, 'Mancio', rather
surprisingly, said no thank you.
"Manchester United contacted
him [Mancini] some time ago to make him Ferguson's assistant, but he
refused," Mancini's agent Giorgio De Giorgis told Udineseblog.it.
Mancini
has been out of a job ever since the Nerazzurri sacked him last year.
The former Sampdoria striker recently stated his ambition to return to
the bench. De Giorgis has backed the claims, but he was keen to
underline that his client wants to work abroad.
"I am certain that Mancini will return to coaching, but his preference would be away from Italy," added the agent.
"He has shown that he can do the job as his teams have always won."
Some
critics have put the sword into Jose Mourinho, claiming he is doing no
better than Mancini did at San Siro. De Giorgis was eager to remind
everyone of the Jesi-born tactician's illustrious past.
"Mourinho
is great from a media point of view, but he has won less than Roberto
on the pitch. Mancini has plenty of trophies in his cabinet," concluded
De Giorgis.
