Rio backs Evans to fill Vidic void

Rio Ferdinand is adamant that Jonny Evans is a more than capable understudy for the suspended Nemanja Vidic.
Evans’ stock has risen considerably this season having been frequently asked to step in for either Ferdinand or Vidic for various high profile games.
Vidic’s dismissal against Liverpool on Saturday lunchtime means he will now miss Manchester United’s forthcoming league games with Fulham and Aston Villa, leaving Evans once again to step in alongside Ferdinand.
“He’s got a lot of experience,” the England defender said of his Northern Ireland counterpart. “He played home and away against Chelsea and Villarreal this season. He has played in a lot of other big games and he also plays international football with Northern Ireland.
“He’s young, yes, but he’s been playing well and he’s a kid who’s on to some good things if he keeps applying himself in the way he has been.”
