Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson looked relaxed ahead of his side's big four clash with rivals Liverpool
during his pre-match press conference today, dismissing any notion of
an unprecedented quintuple season. He also clarified Wayne Rooney's
"hate" comments aimed at the Merseyside club.
Fielding questions
about the club's potential ability to claim a clean sweep of domestic
honours, together with the Champions League, Ferguson told journalists,
"I'm realistic about it and I do not think it can be done.
"All
we can do at the moment is to keep playing the way we are playing and
to take each game as it comes along, then see where it takes us."
The
moxie Scot was still purring over the manner in which United disposed
of Craven Cottage outfit Fulham last weekend. The Red Devils triumphed
by a healthy 4-0 scoreline in that match, with goals from Rooney, Park
Ji-Sung and a deuce from the hard-working Carlos Tevez.
"The
form of the team is encouraging and I thought that the performance
against Fulham last Saturday was the best I'd seen for a while,” he
enthused. “At this point of the season, to play like that is great."
The
knight then clarified Wayne Rooney's comments about Liverpool, a club
the powerhouse England international said he harboured a lot of hatred
for.
"I think the word is not used the right way," Ferguson
began. "Everyone uses the word hatred. It’s easy to say, 'I hate
this... I hate that.' No-one uses dislike.
"The press don't use
it. It’s always hate, and its an easy [word] to use. Wayne has received
plenty of stick over the years from Liverpool. It's understandable as
he was an Evertonian as a kid and - as [Everton manager] David Moyes
points out - the rivalry is ferocious now."
now it looks likely they may end up winning only the carling cup.
berba is injured and scholes, vidic and rooney on red cards.
liverpool are in top form.
They should take it easy, one game at a time. And don't keep thinking of the Quintuple.
