According to reports in various British tabloids, Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo and Newcastle United's Steven Taylor went head-to-head in the tunnel during the half-time break on Wednesday night.
Towards
the end of the first half at St. James' Park, the Magpies defender
appeared to have struck the Portuguese winger in the face when
challenging him for the ball.
However, referee Steve Bennett
seemed to have either missed the incident or not deemed it too serious
as Taylor was only shown a yellow card.
The Sun claims
Ronaldo responded by telling the England Under-21 defender, "Your style
of football is s***," to which Taylor replied, "Well, you are ugly!"
However, the Daily Express reports that it was Wayne Rooney who told the 23-year-old centerback, "You’ve always been a s*** footballer."
The
6ft 2in defender's response to 'Wazza' is said to have been, "I might
be a s*** player but at least I’m not ugly like you. You’ll always be
ugly."
Either way, it is thought that there was a clash between
the players that could be investigated by the FA if the referee
included it in his match report.
