Manchester United are reportedly willing to offer Cristiano Ronaldo a new deal at the club, which will see him earn £200,000 a week.
The News of the World claims that the Premier League champions are willing to offer Ronaldo a
£10.4million-a-year contract in order to retain his services and
prevent him from joining Real Madrid.
The
Portuguese international has repeatedly been linked with a move to the
Bernabeu however he remains at Old Trafford and manager Sir Alex Ferguson has always strongly denied he will sell the player.
The
tabloid quotes a ‘source’ close to Ronaldo as suggesting he will be
happy to stay, explaining, “Cristiano wants to clear his head of the
Real Madrid move once and for all. When he agreed to stay at United
last summer he thought it would be just for one more year.
“But now he seems to be setting his mind on the long term because he realises he can fulfil all his ambitions at Old Trafford.”
Ronaldo’s
current contract at the club still has three years left to run yet
under Fifa rules he could buy himself out of his contract at the end of
next season
However, the proposed new deal will reportedly keep
him at the club until 2014 and also ensure that the Ballon d’Or winner
is the highest paid player in the Premier League by some distance.
The
new contract would reportedly pay Ronaldo wages of £160,000 a week plus
£40,000 for image rights and commercial activities, more than enough to
keep him in Ferraris for the foreseeable future.
