Carlos Tevez insists he wants to stay at Manchester United but admits he will have to wait until the summer to sort out his future.
The Argentina striker's two-year loan deal expires at the end of the season and United have not taken up an option to sign him for about £32million.
The Barclays Premier League champions had until January 31 to talk to Tevez exclusively, but have risked losing Tevez to other suitors by letting the deadline pass.
Real Madrid are understood to be long-term admirers and even Manchester City have been linked with a move, but Tevez says he wants to stay at Old Trafford.
'I have the head start in Manchester and my idea is to stay here for a few more years,' Tevez told Argentina's Radio del Plata. 'It is very difficult to leave one of the world's biggest clubs.
'We've had talks with Manchester, but nothing has been signed yet. Both sides have decided to wait for June to find a definitive solution. The conversations have been with the (directors) and not with (manager Sir Alex) Ferguson.'

Tevez went on to compare the approach of United and Diego Maradona's Argentina side. 'The national team don't score too many from outside the area, while in Manchester there are players who are very good at shooting from long distance.That can make the difference.'
The former West Ham favourite described Ryan Giggs as United's 'silent leader' and praised Cristiano Ronaldo.
