Sir Alex Ferguson insists there is no chance that Wayne Rooney will be rushed back to fitness following his latest injury.
Rooney has picked up a hamstring injury and is not due to return to action until mid-February, which is likely to mean he misses England’s friendly game against Spain in Seville on February 11.
And while Ferguson feels the forward is making good progress, he is refusing to take any chances.
“Wayne has never had a hamstring injury before and there is no way we will bring him back early,” he said in the Daily Star Sunday.
“He’s doing terrific work in the gym and, in terms of his rehabilitation, he is on the mend.
“But we said at the time he was injured that it would be three or four weeks before he would be fit and there is no change there.”
Ferguson also revealed that he believes Rooney has the same kind of quality as Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo has won a host of awards recently including the Fifa World Player of the Year and the Ballon d’Or, but Ferguson feels Rooney could also win that kind of global recognition.
“You can put Wayne in the same bracket as Cristiano,” he said.
“It is possible for him, too, to win these awards.”

given how his young body has so many injuries over the years, it is good that United is taking the cautious approach...
I believe he is top 1 if not 2nd most important player in United team, and unless he "commits suicide", won't be sold at any costs..
Make sure he stays off the new year goodies!
