Sir Alex Ferguson has vowed to offer Ryan Giggs a new contract at Manchester United – and believes he could be named Footballer of the Year.
The 35-year-old has revelled in a more central role for United this season and, despite earlier hinting he may retire when his current deal expires in May, it now appears he is set to play on.
And Ferguson, who feels Giggs is still improving all the time, has confirmed he wants the former Wales international to extend his playing career at Old Trafford.
“Ryan will be offered a new contract with us, of course,” he said in the Sunday Mirror.
“He has been fantastic for us this season – he seems to be getting even better with age.
“He could win the Footballer of the Year award and it would be fitting if he did after the career he has had.
“He seems to be one of those rare people who find that age and injuries don’t catch up with them.”
Might as well offer him a contract for life. This kind of play sure know when to retire with dignity.
